The Safe and Caring Committee of Amalgamated Academy in Bay Roberts presented their school community with a challenge this year. They were asked to warm up a featherless turkey displayed in their main lobby by purchasing feathers for a twonie. The initiative, referred to as "Twonies for Turkeys," was an effort to raise money for Helping Hand to help purchase turkeys for families in need. To encourage the sale of as many feathers as possible, all feathers sold were eligible to win a set of 4 Ice Caps tickets, which were kindly donated by Bartlett’s Irving in Bay Roberts.

Our Safe and Caring Student Committee members were hard at work selling feather during recess and even during our parent teacher session and Christmas concerts. The response of the school was overwhelming, as $740 was raised and presented to our local Helping Hand. Our turkey (nicknamed Tobias) was barely visible under all of his feathers!

The lucky winner of the Ice Caps tickets was one of our Grade 4 students, Liam Porter.  Congratulations to Liam and everyone who helped support "Toonies for Turkeys."
