Belanger Celebrates Mole Day

Mole Day is an unofficial holiday celebrated among chemists, chemistry students and chemistry enthusiasts on October 23, between 6:02 a.m. and 6:02 p.m. The time and date are derived from Avogadro’s number (6.02 x 1023), which defines the number of particles (atoms or molecules) in one mole of a substance. Chemistry students at Belanger Memorial in the Codroy Valley have been celebrating Mole Day for many years now with fun, games, and great learning opportunities. Students create their own shirts to wear in honor of Avogadro, they wake up and create a Mole Day post at 6:02 am and in chemistry class that day, they play mole games such as the Molympics and Pin the Mole in the Equation. They feast on various snacks including guacaMOLE and oatMOLE cookies  and each year they write and create a Mole Day video which stares many of the chemistry students and other students interested in honoring Avogadro.

Mole Day was created to foster interest in chemistry and we are pleased to say it does just that in the halls of Belanger.
