JOB TEXT:

Full time permanent position for Itinerant Teacher for Blind and Visual Impairment servicing the Family of Schools 4 and 5.  Duties to commence September 2, 2025.

Reporting to the Director of Student Services or designate, the successful candidate will have a critical role in ensuring student achievement and success for those who are blind or visually impaired. This position will require on site presence at the school or schools that the position services. 

Staff will also engage in a blended service delivery model, encompassing both direct service and virtual services as required. 

As a Itinerant for the Blind and Visual Impairment, your work will focus on your application of the 7 Determinants of the School Development Model which are: Wellness and Positive Relationships; Optimal Learning Environments; Instructional Practice; Assessment Practices; Collective Efficacy; Evidence-based Decision Making, and Teachers as Learners.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

 

  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, including birth to high school graduation.
  • Experience teaching in a variety of settings (virtual and in-person).
  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired - including those with exceptionalities.
  • Experience with assessment including: Functional Vision Learning Media, writing effective goals, program planning, and program delivery.
  • Knowledge and ability to teach Braille code.
  • Competency in computer use and assistive technology that is specific to this role.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all team members and community partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to document and maintain student records and files.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Masters of Educational Psychology for the Blind and Visually Impaired
  • Equivalencies may be considered
  • Valid Driver?s License as regular travel with a personal vehicle is required - potential for overnight stays

 

Annual Teacher Salary Scale contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits contained within the agreement.  

 

Applicants without the required qualifications may be considered in accordance with Clause 37.01 (d) of the provincial collective agreement.

If Interview Required: Please note that candidates designated as Highly Recommended and Recommended in 2023 or 2024 individual or pool competitions will have that designation carried over for 2025 and will not require an interview for similar positions.  


Interviews that occur during this hiring season will be designated as Recommendable or Not Recommendable at this time.  Thus, going forward, the Recommendable designation will carry over and will equal the Highly Recommendable that will be phased out.
