JOB TEXT:

The Heavy Equipment Technician (Lead Mechanic) is responsible for the overall mechanical safety of a fleet of buses and other vehicles by adhering to manufacturer's procedures, specifications, government legislation and Departmental policies and procedures. They are responsible for performing skilled journeyperson level work associated with the identification, repair and maintenance of buses.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Government-Operated Bus Services or designate, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and performing repairs on the fleet of buses and other Government owned vehicles. Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor. The candidate will also be responsible for inspecting and issuing reports as required by NLSchools and the Department of Digital Government and Service NL and all other agencies/departments having jurisdiction.

Applicants must have completed high school and possess a Journeyperson's Certificate as a mechanic (Heavy Equipment, Commercial Transport or Automotive) issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador supplemented with experience in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. Equivalent combinations of training and experience will be considered. Applicants will be required to obtain a valid Class 2 Driver's License with airbrake endorsement. Training in First Aid with Level C CPR and/or other safety-related courses would be considered assets.

NAPE Salary Scale (CG-30): $28.36 - $31.50 per hour. Effective January 13, 2026 until January 12, 2027, a market adjustment of $24,000.00 (prorated) as per the Market Adjustment Policy will be in effect
