About the Role:
NLSchools is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager of Cybersecurity Services to establish and lead a robust cybersecurity program. This new position is critical for protecting NLSchools' digital assets, including the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems, networks, and data. The role reports directly to the Director of Information Technology.
The Manager will be a central figure in safeguarding NLSchools' extensive digital presence, which includes a complex mix of on-premise and cloud-based systems and thousands of devices used by students and staff. This position is accountable for providing a crucial line of defense against evolving threats, such as ransomware, data breaches, and social engineering attacks, which are common in the K-12 education sector. The successful candidate will advise senior leadership on information security risks and mitigation options, and then implement those strategies effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain security policies, procedures, and protocols to protect NLSchools' data and systems.
- Oversee the daily operations of the cybersecurity team, including risk analysis, incident response, and cybersecurity training programs.
- Manage security infrastructure and technologies, such as firewalls, endpoint protection, and vulnerability assessment and management.
- Create and maintain an incident response plan and lead efforts to mitigate and document cybersecurity incidents.
- Ensure compliance with relevant federal and provincial regulations, standards, and cyber insurance requirements, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPPA).
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including government partners like the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (CCCS) and the provincial Cyber Security Office (CSO).
- Promote cybersecurity awareness and training for staff, students, and other stakeholders.
- Evaluate and monitor the cybersecurity practices of third-party vendors.
- Advise senior leadership on information security risks and implement risk mitigation strategies.
Qualifications and Experience:
You hold a relevant post-secondary degree in computer science, information security, or a related discipline. You bring 5+ years of progressive cybersecurity experience, including management of technical teams.
The following industry-recognized cybersecurity certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), would be considered an asset.

You have deep technical expertise in network/system security, data protection, encryption, incident response, and vulnerability management.
- You understand government IT environments and legislation like ATIPPA.
- You excel at communicating complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders and building cross-organizational partnerships
- Advanced knowledge of information security principles, practices, and technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for risk assessment and vulnerability management.
- Experience in leading incident response efforts and developing incident response plans.
- Excellent leadership and management skills.
- Effective communication skills for conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory compliance frameworks such as PIPEDA and ATIPPA.
- Experience with enterprise cybersecurity technologies, including SIEM systems, firewalls, and endpoint protection.
- Experience in managing hardware and software lifecycle programs and conducting risk assessments.
- A detail-oriented, persistent, and curious personality with a passion for staying updated on the evolving threat landscape.
Remuneration as per Management Hay scale HL-22 ($78,055 - $101,471)
