The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for the overall mechanical safety of school buses and other vehicles and ensures they are maintained and repaired as per manufacturer's procedures, specifications, government legislation and departmental policies and procedures. They perform skilled journeyperson level work associated with the identification, repair and maintenance of buses.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Government-operated Bus Services or designate, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and performing repairs on school buses and other Government owned vehicles. Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.  The candidate will also be responsible for inspecting and issuing reports as required by the Departments of Transportation and Infrastructure and Digital Government and Service NL and all other agencies/departments having jurisdiction. 

Applicants must have completed high school and possess a Journeyperson's Certificate as a mechanic (Heavy Equipment, Commercial Transport or Automotive) issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador supplemented with experience in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.  Equivalent combinations of training and experience will be considered. Applicants will be required to obtain a valid Class 2 Driver's License with airbrake endorsement. Training in First Aid with Level C CPR and/or other safety-related courses would be considered assets.

NAPE Master Salary Scale (CG-29): $27.61 - $30.67

Successful candidate will also receive $12,000 in annual Market Adjustment payments (prorated) until August 2025 as per Market Adjustment policy.
