| JOB TEXT: | Full time permanent position for English Additional Language (EAL) Teacher. Duties to commence September 6, 2022. This position works with students who are eligible and approved to receive english as a second language instruction. The successful candidate will be responsible for initial and ongoing assessment of english language learning competencies, direct teaching in class and small group settings to support language, literacy and numeracy competencies and the delivery of the approved ESL curriculum. You support language development from linguistic, literary, social, cultural and psychological perspectives. Collaboration with teachers, parents and other student supports to enhance teaching and learning is expected. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES · Pedagogical and practical knowledge of teaching English as a second/additional language, including theory, learning strategies, stages of language development, individual differences, and language structure · A range of TESL teaching and evaluation and assessment methods, strategies, and skills · Culturally and linguistically responsive teaching methods including the planning and implementation of effective and responsive teaching and learning practices · Demonstrated evidence of how to shape a safe and positive learning environment for students and willingness to engage professionally with colleagues, families and communities · Knowledge of trauma-informed teaching practices will be considered an asset · Demonstrated love of learning and an ability to build learner and leadership capacity Travel to schools within the region may be required.
